What happens during teeth cleaning?

Our dental hygienist will thoroughly examine your gums during a cleaning, taking note of any recession or periodontal pocketing. They’ll also gently remove plaque and tartar from the area surrounding your gum line and between your teeth. Once your teeth are free of tartar, they’ll polish them with an advanced electric brush before flossing in between each tooth. Every time a patient comes in, we always screen for oral cancer. If you are susceptible to cavities or have persistent dental sensitivity, we may also advise a prescription fluoride therapy or mouthwash.

Is dental cleaning painful?

If it’s been a while since your last professional cleaning, your gums might bleed a bit during your cleaning. However, our hygienists are really gentle, and we’ll move slowly according to your requirements and comfort level. After your cleaning, an over-the-counter painkiller will work if your mouth feels a little sore.

Does my insurance cover dental cleanings?
