Meet Dr. David J. Cooper, DDS

Dentist Prince Frederick, MD

Dr. Cooper opened his first dental office in November of 1977, in St. Mary’s Square.  At the time he had one treatment room and one dental assistant.  Back then St. Mary’s County had a population of around 40,000 people.  Today the population hovers around 100,000.  There were only four traffic lights and less than a dozen major restaurants back then.

Dr. Cooper enjoyed steady growth and eventually outgrew the facility.  In 1994, armed with the knowledge of the ensuing growth to the county thanks to the local military base, he purchased the present site of Tidewater, Lexington Park.  The “new” location had previously served as a mobile home dealership, a boat dealership, a health/racquetball club, and a video game arcade.   He originally built his office in the middle of the building where the current day reception room, business office, and operatories 7, 8, and 9 are now located.

In 2000, as a response to continued growth, Dr. Cooper made the decision to expand and grow with the area once again. He added staff members and an additional dentist. He also made the decision to change the name of the practice to Tidewater Dental.   After five more years and three more expansions Tidewater Dental was using the entire facility.

In 2009, Dr. Todd Cooper joined the practice upon graduating from dental school.  Shortly thereafter, Tidewater opened a new practice in Prince Frederick, Maryland. Then, in 2014 Solomons Island was added to the Tidewater Team.  In late 2015 Tidewater Dental Prince Frederick out grew its facility and the office relocated next door to a ten chair practice.  In January of 2016 Tidewater Dental was proud to bring on its fourth location in Lusby Maryland.

Tidewater Dental currently employs fourteen of the area’s finest dentists and a support staff of nearly 80 people.  Tidewater is known for providing exemplary service in a clean and sterile environment by a professional and friendly staff.  Their locations are convenient and accommodating.  They respect their patients’ time and opinion while ensuring they understand their dental condition and best line of treatment.

Keys to Tidewater’s success and growth include:
